How rent benefit works
Huurtoeslag for tenants in the Netherlands
Laatst gecontroleerd: 24 May 2026
Rent benefit reduces your rent if your income, assets and rent level fit official rules.
Rent limits depend on your age. Service costs often count toward the rent cap.
Example
Rent € 750, income € 22,000, no partner: may show a few hundred euros per month in an estimate.
Rent above the age-related cap: often no benefit.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out service costs.
- Not reporting a co-resident (medebewoner).
- Treating this page as an official application.
